The perinatal period, between pregnancy and up to two years after birth, is a particularly critical time to identify and address mental health concerns since this period is associated with elevated incidence of mental disorders. Common perinatal mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and somatic disorders, not only pose significant and lasting implications for women’s health and quality of life, but also newborn health and development that have intergenerational impacts.
